LIGHTSPEAK
Reimagining communication through wearable interaction.
Lightspeak explores how wearable technology can make communication more accessible for Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. Combining sign language recognition, visual translation, and audio feedback, the project reimagines communication as a shared, real-time experience. Rather than treating translation as a one-way process, Lightspeak creates a wearable system that enables people with different communication methods to understand one another more naturally in public and professional settings.
Through user research, concept development, and iterative prototyping, Lightspeak evolved from early sketches into a wearable communication system integrating sign language recognition, visual translation, sensors, and audio feedback. The project demonstrates how interaction design can foster more inclusive and accessible communication.
