Papermaker is a Florist is a short documentary following a traditional Naxi papermaker in southwest China. Through observation and conversation, the film documents the traditional craft of making Dongba paper — an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Naxi people—while exploring the relationship between cultural heritage, craftsmanship, and everyday life.
As the director, cinematographer, and editor, I approached the project as both a document of a traditional craft and a portrait of the people who continue to preserve it.
